The Unexpected Opportunity Cost - Chapter 6: The Invisible North

Imagen
Chapter 6: The Invisible North By  Sergio Cano  | Bitacorastudios - La vida real profesiones The vibrant colors of April's flowers gave way to the fruits born from them. Much like in nature, a seed was germinating within the young man—a seed with the potential to transform his surroundings, the kind that grows to shelter those seeking refuge from the rain or support under the scorching sun. Don Elías, like an expert gardener who knows the importance of nutrients, knew this was a critical moment. A fruit's outcome depends on its conditions: a malnourished seed dies before maturing; one in an alkaline environment turns bitter if the acidity isn't neutralized; and one that grows in the shadow of a larger tree ends up smaller than its genetics would allow. It was essential to identify the precise moment to pull the youth out of the shade and face the world on his own, receiving the sun's rays directly. Thanks to Aurelio's file, that moment had arrived during their p...

The Unexpected Opportunity Cost - Chapter 5: The Mirror of the Soul

Chapter 5: The Mirror of the Soul By  Sergio Cano  | Bitacorastudios - La vida real profesiones April was in its prime. Flowers were no longer just promises or buds; they were a vibrant reality, turning Central Park into a canvas of the finest impressionism. Don Elías was returning from his usual visit to the dry cleaner. He had spent a long time chatting with Luciano and, though the reader did not yet know it, something was brewing between the two old friends for the young man's future. As he walked, Elías observed his surroundings with renewed curiosity. —"There is no doubt," —he whispered to himself— "that when one looks calmly, one discovers new worlds in the places we thought we knew. Under the shadow of habit, we tend to overlook the greatest treasures." He noticed, for instance, the absence of the little girl who used to sell gum by the fountain. Her absence weighed on him. In Elías’s order of the world, every piece, no matter how small, was vit...

The Unexpected Opportunity Cost - Chapter 4: The Center of the Storm

Imagen
Chapter 4: The Center of the Storm By  Sergio Cano  | Bitacorastudios - La vida real profesiones The warm March breeze felt like a caress on the soul under the shelter of spring. For Elias, it was a gift; he felt it not only warmed his aching bones but somehow awakened his body and emotions from a long lethargy. Like a bear ending its hibernation, Elias rose from bed, stretching every fiber of his being, feeling the warmth travel through his aging shell. He stood before the thin ray of sunlight streaming through the crack in his window and enjoyed it as a true gift from the gods. For a few seconds, time stood still; for him, only that tiny fragment of light existed. He set aside his worries and focused on admiring the greatness hidden in smallness, reminding himself that the true value of things lies not in their size, but in their essence, their potential, and above all, in how they are perceived by those who witness their existence. That ray represented the hope of a ...

Mindfulness in the Classroom

I have always enjoyed the process of teaching, as it allows me to transfer knowledge and spark growth in individuals. Seeing the potential of students before they see it themselves and then watching them surpass it, sometimes even surpassing me, fills me with joy. The teaching process is a bidirectional cycle, where the teacher learns every day. Not only when preparing what to teach and anticipating student doubts, but also in the moment of teaching. Although I hadn't had the opportunity to teach a formal class, I had given courses and explained topics to my teams, acting more as a guide showing the right direction and motivating learners to explore on their own. In this mentorship process, it's essential to listen to the results of each attempt and help the student understand why they failed, without telling them how to do it. After a few iterations, students return with the news that they've achieved their goal, and often their strategy is better than mine. This has taugh...

Travel and Mindfulness: The Perfect Combination for a Fuller Life

Imagen
In a world where consumerism and the accumulation of material possessions are often seen as synonymous with success and happiness, many people are discovering that these "false pleasures" fail to satisfy their true needs. Instead, they are finding value in experiences that nourish the soul and enrich life. Travel, in particular, offers a unique opportunity to cultivate mindfulness and create lifelong memories. Benefits of Mindfulness in Travel Connection to the Present: Travel allows us to disconnect from our daily routines and connect with the present moment. By being in a new place, we are forced to pay attention to our surroundings, which fosters mindfulness. Learning and Growth: Travel exposes us to new cultures, perspectives, and challenges, allowing us to learn and grow as individuals. Stress Reduction: Travel can be an excellent way to reduce stress and anxiety, as it allows us to step away from our daily worries and focus on the present moment. Creating Memories: Trav...

The Wisdom of the Ring: Reflections on Impermanence

Imagen
The story goes that King Solomon asked his wise men to create a ring with an inscription that would help him keep perspective in times of joy and sorrow. They gave him a ring with the inscription "This too shall pass." These simple words hold a deep wisdom that we can apply to our daily lives. In life, nothing is permanent, neither good nor bad. Being aware of the impermanence of things and emotions will help us enjoy more and suffer less. By accepting that everything changes, we can learn to appreciate the present and make more objective decisions. Objectivity in Decision Making When we see a high-level executive making a difficult decision, we assume they don't have feelings because we couldn't have made such a choice ourselves. However, the reality is that everyone has feelings. It's just their job, and as such, they need to have good emotional management that allows them to separate the emotional part from making more objective decisions. One of them once told...
